Galatasaray’s medical team will test Victor Osimhen on Friday (today) as they race to get the star striker fit for Monday’s crucial derby against Fenerbahce.
The 26-year-old Super Eagles forward, who has been sidelined for 10 days with a hamstring injury, is expected to join team training on the field on Friday to assess his condition ahead of the Kadıköy showdown.
Osimhen sustained a moderate strain and bleeding in his left hamstring during Nigeria’s match against Congo during the last international break. The injury has kept him out of Galatasaray’s last two matches, including Tuesday’s 1-0 Champions League defeat to Union Saint-Gilloise that ended their 33-match home unbeaten streak.
The medical team has been applying intensive treatment to the striker, with most rehabilitation work carried out in the gym. Osimhen has reportedly expressed his willingness to make sacrifices to feature in the high-stakes derby.
Head coach Okan Buruk is in constant contact with the doctors and is very eager for the striker to be available in Kadıköy, according to reports. The Turkish champions, missing nine players due to injuries and suspensions, have all their calculations focused on Osimhen’s recovery.
Galatasaray has failed to score in the two European matches Osimhen has missed this season, underlining his importance to the team’s attacking play.
Meanwhile, Spanish giants Real Madrid are reportedly preparing a €100m bid for Osimhen, according to Fichajes. The club views the Nigerian as crucial to their plans to shift Kylian Mbappé back to his natural position on the left wing.
