Governor Alex Otti of Abia state is fast losing grip of his cabinet as reports emerge that Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Kenneth Kalu, has allegedly handed in his resignation, adding to the mass exodus of appointees from his administration.

Sources say Prof. Kalu submitted his resignation during Monday’s Executive Council meeting, with insiders claiming he wants to reunite with his family in Canada after being fed up with the administration’s one-man show.

Government House, Umuahia, has remained tight-lipped, arousing speculation about the true state of affairs within the Otti-led government.

Political analysts warn that the silence may be deliberate, as confirming another high-profile exit could further damage public confidence in the administration already struggling with internal cracks.

If verified, Prof. Kalu’s resignation adds to a growing list of top officials who have left under murky circumstances, including former Commissioners Chima Oriaku (Science & Technology) and Education. Several aides and advisers have quietly stepped aside since the government took office, leaving citizens questioning the administration’s cohesion and direction.

Observers are calling on the government to be transparent and address the mounting concerns rather than burying critical information, as rumors of a cabinet in crisis continue to spread.

As of now, the state government has not confirmed or denied the shocking report of Prof. Kalu’s exit.
