The Lagos State Government has taken enforcement action against three persons accused of unlawfully dumping refuse along the median of the Ikotun-Igando Road.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the development in a statement shared on his official X account on Tuesday.
He explained that the arrests were made during an early morning operation on Monday by the Lagos Waste Management Authority’s, LAWMA, Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team.
The exercise formed part of sustained efforts to eliminate persistent waste blackspots along the busy corridor.
“During the operation, three individuals were arrested for engaging in illegal refuse disposal on the Ikotun-Igando Road median,” Wahab said.
He added that the suspects have been handed over to LAWMA’s legal unit and taken before the Oshodi Mobile Court for prosecution in line with existing environmental regulations.
Those arrested were identified as Muosolu Ogochukwu, 35, Adedigba Kazeem, 35, and Isaac Monday, 24.
The commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental offences, cautioning residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of waste as authorities intensify enforcement to maintain a clean and healthy Lagos.
