Super Eagles legend Ahmed Musa has announced his retirement from international football, drawing the curtain on a 15-year career in which he became Nigeria’s most capped player and all-time top scorer at the FIFA World Cup.
Musa, who made his debut for Nigeria as a 17-year-old, confirmed his decision in an emotional message, reflecting on his journey with the national team. He noted that he had “worn the badge with pride for 15 years,” progressing from a teenage prodigy to a historic figure in Nigerian football with 111 appearances for the Super Eagles.
During his international career, Musa won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), etched his name in history as Nigeria’s highest goalscorer at the World Cup, and captained the team at various tournaments. He described himself as a “Captain. Servant. Believer,” underlining the humility and commitment that defined his time with the national side.
“I gave everything. Thank you Nigeria… my heart will always beat green,” Musa said, expressing gratitude to fans, teammates, coaches, and the country he represented across multiple tournaments and campaigns.
His retirement marks the end of an era for the Super Eagles, as supporters and football stakeholders pay tribute to one of Nigeria’s most dedicated and decorated players.
