Friends and colleagues of popular content creator Esther ‘Sunshine’ Thomas have appealed to the public for financial assistance to give her a befitting burial following her untimely death.
Sunshine passed away last week after a brief but troubling medical ordeal that began in late December 2025. What was initially dismissed as a severe stomach ache was later diagnosed as a fibroid.
According to her close friend, Chidera Madu, Sunshine was first taken to Orchid General Hospital. However, due to the ongoing nationwide doctors’ strike, she reportedly received only pain relief without a full diagnosis, prompting her transfer to another hospital on January 2 for proper medical attention.
In a video shared online, fellow content creator Dupe Noma explained that Sunshine was eventually diagnosed with three conditions: an ulcer, a fibroid, and a kidney infection. She said treatment for the ulcer and kidney infection was successful, and Sunshine was discharged to prepare for surgery to remove the fibroid.
“The ulcer was being treated, the kidney infection was also being treated, and eventually she was discharged. And the doctor asked her to go and get resources ready and do a couple of scans so that she can have the fibroid removed,” she said.
“She did the surgery, and according to the doctor, the surgery was successful. They noticed that she wasn’t breathing properly, so they performed CPR on her, and they put her on oxygen, but eventually, she passed.”
Noma, alongside Madu and another friend, Lucy Antem, disclosed that Sunshine was an orphan with only one surviving brother, who is currently unable to bear the financial burden of her burial.
“Now the situation at hand is for everyone who has come across Esther Thomas; she’s an orphan, she does not have any family members, she only has one brother, and as we speak, this brother is presently incapacitated,” Noma added.
“Some friends have gone to see the brother, and he confirmed that they do not have any family member, so the friends should go ahead and bury her.”
The friends have now called on members of the public to support them in laying Sunshine to rest, describing her death as a painful loss to the creative community.
