Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday described Kano State as pivotal to the All Progressives Congress, adding that the state cannot continue to be on the sidelines.
Speaking at the official reception of Governor Abba Yusuf into the party on Monday, Shettima stressed that the state “can’t be on the sidelines” in national political calculations.
The event, held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano, also featured the defection of 22 state Assembly members, eight federal lawmakers, and 44 local government chairmen to the APC.
At the event were the APC national chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, former national chairman, Dr Umar Ganduje, governors of Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna, Jigawa, and Imo states.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, Speaker, House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, among others.
Addressing supporters, Shettima described Kano as a “pivotal state” whose full alignment with the ruling party is critical for both state and national electoral success.
The APC lost Kano State in both the presidential and governorship elections to the New Nigeria People’s Party in 2023, but President Bola Tinubu is setting eyes on Kano to consolidate his second-term victory.
