The incumbent governor of Imo State and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the upcoming Imo State governorship election, Hope Uzodimma, was conspicuously absent as candidates of other parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), inclusive, signed a peace accord.

The peace accord, which was signed at the Maria Assumpta Cathedra in Owerri, the state capital, is an initiative of the Justice Department, the Peace and Caritas Commission, the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, the National Voter’s Drive Coalition, and the Imo Advocacy Group.

The candidates of the Labour Party (LP), Senator Athan Achonu; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu; Chief Okere John Jude of the Accord Party (AP); Maj. Gen. Lincoln Ogunewe (rtd) of the Action Alliance; Sir Anthony Ejiogu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); and others who were present pledged to ensure a credible election on November 11 that would be devoid of violence.

On why Uzodimma was absent, the special adviser to the governor on print media, Hon. Modestus Nwankpa, said his principal is a lover of peace who has been working daily to maintain peace and tranquility in the state.

“He had a tight schedule and could not meet up with the timing of the event,” he noted.
