It was a transgenerational passing of the political torch in Kano as the All Progressives Congress (APC) clinched both Ungogo and Kano Municipal seats in Saturday’s State Assembly bye-elections, with the sons of the late lawmakers emerging victorious.

The polls were conducted to fill the vacancies left by the deaths of Aminu Sa’adu (Ungogo) and Sarki Aliyu (Kano Municipal), who passed away last December.

In a powerful demonstration of political continuity, Aminu Sa’adu Jr. and Nabil Daneji contested on the APC platform, and both delivered emphatic wins.

Daneji polled 7,484 votes to capture the Kano Municipal seat. Returning Officer Ibrahim Siraj announced the result and declared him duly elected to represent the constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly.

In Ungogo, Aminu Sa’adu Jr. secured 8,975 votes to seal victory.

The Returning Officer, Ali Abdullahi, declared him winner and returned him elected.

Despite the high-profile family succession, voter turnout was noticeably low across several polling units.
