The All Progressives Congress (APC) has flexed its political muscles in Abia State, holding what party leaders described as peaceful, transparent and well-coordinated ward congresses across Umuahia North and other parts of the state.

The exercise, monitored by the Chairman of the APC Ward and Local Government Congress Committee, Emmanuel Goar, drew enthusiastic participation from party faithful, signaling renewed grassroots energy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Goar, who led a delegation from the party’s National Working Committee, expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the congresses. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were also present across wards to observe the process.

Addressing members after the monitoring tour, Goar declared confidently:

“With what I have seen on the ground, I have no doubt that Abia State is APC. With the determination of the members I have seen here today, APC in Abia State will record a massive victory for President Tinubu in 2027,” he stated.

He assured stakeholders that the committee strictly adhered to the harmonisation directive, guaranteeing transparency and credibility throughout the process.

Ohajuruka Hails Turnout, Charges Ward Executives

Also speaking, Stanley Ohajuruka commended party faithful for the impressive turnout and thanked the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, alongside other stakeholders, for ensuring a seamless exercise.

He congratulated newly elected ward executives and reminded them of the weight of responsibility placed on their shoulders, stressing that grassroots leadership remains critical to securing victory for President Tinubu and all APC candidates in 2027.

Earlier, before the ward congresses commenced, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu addressed party faithful at the Renewed Hope Partners office in Umuahia, explaining why the party adopted harmonisation for the congresses.

According to him, the decision was reached under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu to promote unity and prevent internal conflict.

He declared, “APC belongs to every member; nobody is bigger than the party. The party is sovereign.

“But in the spirit of continuing the cohesion that exists in our party at the moment, there is no need to hold any other type of congress than the one which strengthens our unity — a congress of harmonisation.

“Harmonisation is where stakeholders are given a sense of belonging in deciding who will lead from their ward to their local government, as well as the state, where everybody is given a sense of importance and relevance, making it clear that no one person owns the party.

“Not Benjamin Kalu, not anybody. That is the vision of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. When I met with him, he said, ‘I can’t even say my party; I like saying our party”, the deputy speaker pointed out.

Kalu further revealed that as a member of the party’s National Executive Committee and caucus, it was agreed there would be no parallel processes capable of breeding division.

He added that when minor deviations occurred, the President insisted that NEC and caucus decisions must stand, prompting swift intervention by the National Chairman and the National Working Committee.

The ward congress is a major milestone in the APC’s internal democratic process in Abia, with Local Government Congresses scheduled to continue across the state on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

With renewed unity and strong grassroots mobilisation, the party appears set to intensify its march toward 2027.
