What began as an innocent challenge game took a tragic turn as a 17-year-old boy, identified as Victory Nwakamma, lost his life while swimming with his friend at a hotel’s swimming pool in Aba.
Nwakamma was said to have gone swimming leisurely on Monday evening with his friend, whose only name was given as Prince, in the Terminus Hotel, Ogbor Hill, Aba, where the ugly incident happened.
An anonymous source informed MUK TV that during the ill-fated game, the deceased, though not an experienced swimmer, challenged his friend that he could swim to the deepest part of the pool, which is 40 feet deep.
His friend, Prince, asked him not to. He, however, insisted and swam to the deepest part of the pool, where he drowned before his friend could raise an alarm.
It was also gathered that in the aftermath of the tragic incident, Nwakamma’s father arrested Prince with police on the suspicion that he killed his son in a premeditated circumstance.
He has, however, been released after the intervention of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, MUK TV’s anonymous said.
