FCT Minister Nyesom Wike received the remains of Senator Barinada Mpigi at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Monday morning.
Wike arrived at the airport around 5:30 a.m. to receive the late lawmaker’s body, also welcoming his wife, Patricia Obiageri Mpigi, and their children.
Dignitaries at the airport included PDP Board of Trustees chairman Mao Ohuabunwa, Senators Philip Aduda, Magnus Abe, Allwell Onyesoh, and Olaka Nwogu, as well as House of Representatives Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, Rivers coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Desmond Akawor, and APC National Vice-Chairman (South-South) Victor Giadom.
Wike had visited the Mpigi family in London last Thursday following the senator’s passing, offering condolences and facilitating arrangements for the repatriation of his remains.
Late Senator Mpigi, who represented Rivers South-East senatorial district, passed away in London on February 19, 2026, at the age of 64.
