Shock and grief engulfed Iho community, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, on Monday night as a runaway truck rammed into a house, crushing a mother of three, Mrs. Chioma Ogu, to death.
Her husband, Mr. Ogu, remains critically injured and is fighting for his life in an undisclosed hospital.
The tragedy happened when the truck, carrying chippings, allegedly lost control after the driver dozed off, smashing straight into the family’s bungalow.
Speaking with PunchOnline, a witness, Mr. Emma Emeka, described the horrifying.
“We were already in our houses for the night when we heard a loud noise and then screams from Mr Ogu. When we rushed out, we saw Mrs. Chioma Ogu lying lifeless; she was crushed by the truck that rammed into their house.
“As we speak, Mr Ogu is battling for his life in the hospital. Until her death, Mrs. Chioma was planning her own mother’s burial scheduled for this weekend. This is indeed tragic.”
Mrs. Ogu had been at home preparing for her mother’s burial before her sudden death, leaving the family and community devastated.
Attempts to get a statement from Imo State Police spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye were unsuccessful.
