Panic broke out at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja on Monday morning after a fire erupted in a section of the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation.

The blaze reportedly started around 8:20 a.m., sending thick plumes of black smoke into the air and triggering a swift evacuation of staff members from the affected area.

Eyewitnesses said workers rushed out of their offices as emergency responders were alerted to the incident.

The fire was said to have broken out in Section C of the complex, causing tension within the busy government facility.

Videos circulating on social media showed heavy smoke billowing from the building as firefighters moved in to contain the situation.

Officials Confirm Outbreak

The media department of the Office of the Head of Service later confirmed the incident, noting that the fire was restricted to one section of the building.

“The fire outbreak is limited to Section C of the building and is currently being attended to by emergency officials,” the office said.

Emergency responders were seen battling the flames to prevent them from spreading to other parts of the secretariat complex.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire had not been disclosed.
