U.S. Counterterrorism Chief Resigns Over Opposition to War in Iran

The Director of the National Counterterrorism Center announced his immediate resignation Tuesday, citing moral objections to the United States’ ongoing military campaign in Iran.

In a public statement shared on social media, the now-former director said he could “no longer in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran,” describing the conflict as unjustified and influenced by “pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”
He stated that Iran “posed no imminent threat” to the United States, adding that his decision followed “much reflection” on the ethical implications of the war.

“It has been an honor serving under the President and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and leading the professionals at the NCTC,” he wrote, concluding with a call for divine blessing on the nation.

The White House and National Counterterrorism Center have not yet issued an official response to his resignation. The statement is the most high-profile dissent so far from within the U.S. national security establishment since the war in Iran began.
