The Headquarters of 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia has reacted to trending news, especially on social media where an individual identified as Lance Corporal Chukwu Ebuka Peter was said to have been involved in armed robbery.
The individual was purported to be a soldier attached to the 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Abia State, according to the circulating video.
But reacting to the news on Wednesday, the Nigerian Army categorically stated that every soldier has a number, adding that there was no unit under the 14 Brigade mentioned by the arrested individual during his interrogation.
The Army’s statement, which was signed by Captain Mazinho Attah, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, condemned the actions of impersonation.
Army preliminary checks and records indicate that the suspect is an unscrupulous criminal impersonator falsely parading himself as a member of the Nigerian Army with the intent to perpetrate criminal activities.
The Nigerian Army strongly condemns such acts of impersonation and criminality,” Captain Attah said.
He emphasized that the Nigerian Army maintains strict standards of discipline, professionalism, and accountability among its personnel where any verified personnel found culpable in criminal conduct is subjected to due process in accordance with extant military laws and regulations.
He urged the general public to disregard the claims associating the suspect to the Nigerian Army.
He encouraged the general public to report suspicious individuals impersonating military personnel to the nearest security agency for prompt action.
