Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has called on the Abia State Government to immortalise late renowned cleric, Rev. Dr Uma Ukpai, as preparations intensify for his burial in Ohafia this week.
Kalu, who had earlier mourned the passing of the respected evangelist, made the appeal on Monday in a statement personally signed by him, describing Rev Dr. Uma Ukpai as a spiritual icon whose contributions to Christianity and societal development remain indelible.
According to the former governor, the late preacher’s influence transcended the pulpit, noting that his teachings and humanitarian efforts impacted lives across Nigeria and beyond.
“With the burial of this great servant of God taking place in Ohafia this week, it is only fitting that the Abia State Government takes concrete steps to immortalise him. His life was one of service, sacrifice and commitment to humanity,” Kalu said.
He stressed that immortalising Ukpai would not only honour his legacy but also serve as a source of inspiration for future generations, particularly in a time when moral values are increasingly under pressure.
Kalu further noted that Ukpai’s ministry helped shape moral consciousness in society, urging leaders at all levels to emulate his virtues of humility, discipline and dedication to service.
The lawmaker also extended his condolences once again to the family, church members and associates of the late cleric, praying for strength as they prepare to lay him to rest.
