Elon Musk has announced that X, formerly known as Twitter, will “pause” its planned update to the creator monetization program, which aimed to calculate earnings based on local user impressions.

The billionaire owner of X made the announcement in a post early Wednesday, stating that the company will take time to review the proposed update before proceeding. The revision was intended to align payouts more closely with creators’ audience reach within their local regions, a shift from the current system based on global engagement metrics.

Musk said the review would ensure the new structure remains “fair and transparent” for creators across different countries. Many content creators on the platform had expressed concern that the change could reduce earnings in markets with lower ad rates or smaller active user bases.

The monetization program on X, introduced in 2023, pays verified users for ad revenue generated from posts that attract significant engagement. Musk’s latest decision suggests the company may adjust its payout algorithm again before implementing any new formula tied to regional impressions.
