Senegal players paraded the Africa Cup of Nations trophy before their friendly against Peru at the Stade de France in Paris on Saturday, defiantly asserting their claim to the title despite being stripped of it earlier this month.

According to a report by The Guardian, Captain Kalidou Coulibaly led his teammates on a lap of honour with the trophy following a pre-match performance by Senegalese music legend Youssou N’Dour.

The Confederation of African Football had on March 17 awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory over Senegal in the January final, reversing the 1-0 scoreline from the match in Rabat.

The governing body cited a 14-minute walk-off by Senegal players during the final, staged in protest at the award of a penalty, as grounds for the decision.
