Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked the convoy of Zamfara State Governor’s Chief of Staff, Alhaji Mouktar Lugga, in a daring ambush along the Funtua–Gusau highway.
The attack reportedly took place near Kucheri village at about 6:16 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, while Lugga was returning from an official assignment.
According to reports, the assailants emerged from both sides of the road and opened fire on the convoy, targeting the vehicle carrying the Chief of Staff and members of his team.
A bullet was said to have penetrated the windshield, narrowly missing the driver, while another attacker attempted to fire at close range but experienced a weapon malfunction.
Despite the intensity of the assault, the driver managed to swiftly navigate the vehicle out of the ambush, ensuring that all occupants escaped unhurt.
The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in Zamfara State, where banditry continues to pose a threat to both residents and public officials.
