Former Kaduna Central senator and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Shehu Sani, has dismissed the wave of support for former presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing it as largely driven by ethnic sentiments and political theatrics.

Sani made the remarks during a recent episode of “The Honest Bunch Podcast,” where he appeared alongside activist Deji Adeyanju to discuss Nigeria’s political landscape and leadership dynamics.

While defending the APC-led government and projecting confidence ahead of the next general elections, Sani insisted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is well-positioned for re-election in 2027.

“The support for Peter Obi is drama, many of those supporting him and those who come from his ethnic background. If Obi becomes the President of Nigeria today, nothing changes, everything remains the same.”

He further argued that Nigeria’s major political figures share similar ideological leanings, suggesting that voters are often presented with recycled options rather than distinct alternatives.

“Obi, Obasanjo, Atiku, and Tinubu are people who come from the same ideological perspective. They are people who share the same political thinking. Tinubu will win the 2027 elections; the choice we have is between Satan and the devil,” he added.

Sani’s comments have raised fresh debate over the nature of political support in Nigeria, particularly around issues of ethnicity, ideology, and voter perception as the country gradually looks ahead to the 2027 elections.
