Adams Oshiomhole, the Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, criticized the recent nationwide strike by organized labour in response to the brutalization of NLC President, Joe Ajaero.
Oshiomhole revealed his prior encounter with the Department of State Services (DSS) during his tenure as NLC President between 1999 and 2007.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the former NLC President recounted an incident when he was stopped from traveling to Delta State by the then director of the DSS, following an ultimatum issued to the Federal Government led by President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Describing his experience, he said, “They dragged me on the tarmac, and I had my cuts all over the place. They forcefully prevented me from flying and took me back to the DSS director general’s office—then Col. [Kayode] Are.”
He further explained that despite the offer to be taken to a government hospital, he declined, expressing distrust in the government’s intentions.
Oshiomhole detailed his subsequent 48-hour detention but remained resolute in seeking justice.
In his critique, Oshiomhole accused Joe Ajaero, the assaulted NLC President in Imo State, of intertwining politics with labour issues.
He asserted that Ajaero’s assault does not justify a nationwide strike, dismissing the necessity for such action.
