Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has surprisingly entered the race for the Imo West Senatorial District seat after purchasing the Intent and Nomination Forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A youth group from the senatorial district reportedly purchased the from for Governor Uzodimma on Saturday.
This development is a sign of an imminent political shake-up in the state, with strong indications that Uzodinma, who power brokers say will be favoured to be the next Senate President in 2027, will resign from office to pursue his senatorial ambition.
Sources within government circles revealed that once the governor formally resigns, the current deputy governor will be sworn in as the new governor in line with constitutional provisions.
In a fresh twist, the state is already bracing for leadership changes following the resignation of Deputy Governor, Mrs. Chinyere Ekomaru, on Friday.
Her resignation has triggered a succession chain that will see a new deputy governor nominated and confirmed by the Imo State House of Assembly.
The incoming deputy governor is expected to immediately assume office and later step up as governor once Uzodinma completes his transition to the Senate race.
Political Analysts say the development sets the stage for a rapid reshuffling of power in Imo, as the APC consolidates its position ahead of the next electoral cycle.
