Sir Mascot Uzor Kalu, frontline governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, has called for calm and reconciliation amid rising media tensions between former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu.

Addressing the situation on his official Facebook page, Kalu, known for his pacific disposition, stressed the need for unity, urging supporters of both leaders to de-escalate tensions and embrace peace.

“This morning, I choose the path of peace,” he said, noting that “a lot has been said about the relationship” between the two political figures.

The former Abia Chief of Staff appealed directly to their supporters, stating: “I urge both sides of the divide to sheathe their swords. Let us toe the path of peace.”

Kalu also disclosed plans to intervene by engaging key stakeholders in Bende Local Government Area to mediate the dispute between his brother and friend.

“I will be reaching out to some leaders and elders of Bende LGA to seek a peaceful resolution to the rift,” he said, adding: “The idea is to take Benjamin to his leader, who is also our leader, to make peace.”

Insisting on the importance of unity beyond politics, Kalu highlighted the enduring ties of family and relationships.

“After politics, there is still family, and there are still relationships. This is the path I want us to follow,” he stated.

He further called for an end to hostilities among supporters, warning against actions that could deepen divisions.

“Stop all the bickering. Stop all the insults. Stop all the hostile exchanges. Let us move forward and embrace peace at this time,” he urged.

MUK TV reports that the appeal comes at a time of a perceived supremacy battle within the Abia State APC, triggered by pre-electoral politicking ahead of the party’s primaries.

Kalu’s intervention is seen as a strategic step to restore harmony and prevent further escalation within the political family.
