A 25-year-old man has been remanded to Luzira Prison over allegations that he murdered his girlfriend, a final-year law student at Uganda Christian University (UCU).

Kisoga-Ntenjeru Town Council resident John Bosco Mayanja went before the Mukono Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he was accused of killing Bridget Arikiriza, age 22.
The incident is said to have happened on the evening of April 8 after the two allegedly spent the evening together at The Hive pub in Mukono town, according to court proceedings.
According to prosecution evidence presented in court, Mayanja allegedly became agitated after Arikiriza declined to spend the night at his home.
It is further alleged that he then forced her into his vehicle, a Premio car. Moments later, he is said to have contacted a worker at the bar, claiming that his girlfriend had been involved in a road accident along the Katosi road.
The court also heard that Mayanja later transferred the injured woman into a Toyota Mark X, where he was reportedly accompanied by friends.
The group then rushed her to Mukono Church of Uganda Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Recheal Kawala, said the suspect initially reported the incident as a road traffic accident, but inconsistencies in his account prompted further investigations.
“Investigations have since established that the deceased sustained injuries before she was taken to the hospital,” Kawala said.
Police say the discrepancies in Mayanja’s statement led to his arrest as inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding Arikiriza’s death. The suspect has been remanded for further investigations and next court hearing…
