A federal high court in Abuja has convicted former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, on charges of money laundering brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Delivering judgment on the 12-count charge, Justice James Omotosho held that the prosecution successfully proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, establishing Mamman’s culpability in the alleged financial crimes.

“The court is satisfied that the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt,” the judge ruled, convicting the former minister on all counts.

Mamman, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari from August 21, 2019, to September 1, 2021, was sacked during a cabinet reshuffle before later facing prosecution over alleged mismanagement and laundering of public funds.

His conviction adds to a growing list of former public officials being brought before the courts as anti-graft agencies intensify efforts to recover stolen assets and enforce accountability in public office.

Further details of sentencing and penalties are expected as proceedings continue.
