Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Thursday formally submitted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nomination and expression-of-interest forms to the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 presidential election, kickstarting the official takeoff of Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The forms were submitted at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, where top APC leaders, governors, lawmakers and party heavyweights gathered in a show of solidarity for the President.
In a statement shared by Stanley Nkwocha, media aide to the Vice-President, Shettima was described as a loyal deputy leading the charge for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
“Touted as a most loyal deputy to his boss, Vice President Kashim Shettima @officialSKSM has arrived at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre to officially submit President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s @officialABAT nomination and expression of interest forms to the national officers of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) @OfficialAPCNg.
“The vice president, whose vibrancy, loyalty, partnership, support, competence, and performance in his deputising role have been publicly acknowledged and appreciated by his boss, was received at the venue by a cross-section of state governors, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, among other political heavyweights.”
The submission officially kickstarts President Tinubu’s quest for another four-year term under the APC platform after securing victory in the 2023 presidential election alongside Shettima with over eight million votes.
The ruling party had earlier waived screening requirements for Tinubu, declaring that his physical appearance before the APC screening panel was unnecessary ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.
Nkwocha further described the submission of the forms as the formal beginning of Tinubu’s re-election journey, expressing confidence that the APC would emerge victorious again in 2027.
