Members of a United States delegation reportedly discarded all items received from Chinese officials before departing Beijing, underscoring heightened security precautions during the high-level visit.

According to accounts circulating after the trip, the delegation disposed of gifts, badges, pins, and other commemorative items presented by their Chinese hosts before boarding Air Force One. The reported move ensured that no items of Chinese origin were taken onto the aircraft at the end of the visit.

The precautionary measure is said to be part of broader security protocols adopted during the trip, reflecting ongoing concerns over surveillance and counterintelligence risks in sensitive diplomatic engagements.

In addition, members of the delegation reportedly avoided carrying personal electronic devices to China. Instead, they relied on temporary “burner” phones for communication throughout the visit, a common practice among officials traveling to countries considered high-risk for cyber espionage.

While such measures are not unprecedented, the reported disposal of official gifts highlights the level of caution surrounding U.S.-China relations, which remain strained over issues including technology, security, and geopolitical influence.
