In response to the recent attack on the Adamawa State Police Command headquarters, Commissioner of Police CP Afolabi Babatola strongly warned that assaults on his personnel will not be tolerated.
The warning came in the aftermath of a conflict between police officers and military personnel at Target Junction in Yola North Local Government Area, where Police Inspector Jacob Daniel lost his life during a gunfire exchange.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje stated that identities behind the attack remained unknown, although suspicions of Boko Haram involvement arose due to Adamawa’s susceptibility to insurgency.
CP Babatola, who ordered an immediate investigation into the clash, condemned the brutal attack on the police facility and reaffirmed the sanctity of the lives of police officers.
The CP said, “Attacks on all security officers in the line of duty will no longer be tolerated under whatever guise.”
He underscored the commitment to protecting lives and property, urging collaboration among security agencies to safeguard the fundamental rights of security operatives.
As the investigation unfolded, the police command appealed for calm, assuring the public that legal measures would be taken to address the situation.
The clash in Adamawa follows a recent standoff between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Air Force, highlighting occasional inter-agency conflicts that have, in the past, resulted in tragic consequences.
