The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has called for an emergency stakeholders’ meeting ahead of the much-anticipated House of Representatives primary election scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026.

In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Chief Uche Aguoru, all stakeholders and aspirants are expected to attend the crucial meeting, which will take place at the New Party Secretariat along Finbarr’s Road, Umuahia, by 4:00 p.m.

The statement described attendance as mandatory, noting that the meeting will set the stage for the commencement of the House of Representatives primary election later in the day.

“Party faithful and political stakeholders are expected to deliberate on key issues surrounding the exercise as preparations intensify for the primaries,” he said.

The statement came hours after the party announced that the House of Representatives primaries would not commence as earlier scheduled, sparking confusion and uncertainty among party members in the state.

Sources within the party disclosed that the delay may not be unconnected to the alleged seizure of sensitive election materials by a key stakeholder from Abia South Senatorial District since Friday, creating tension and uncertainty among members and aspirants.

As of the time of filing this report, party members were said to be stranded at various venues awaiting official directives, while concerns continued to mount over the credibility and organisation of the exercise.
