Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja in a development that has intensified political and legal conversations across the country.
The ruling was delivered on Monday by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who admitted the former governor to bail in the sum of N100 million with one surety in like amount.
The court, however, attached stringent conditions to the bail approval.
According to the ruling, the surety must reside in either Maitama or Asokoro, two high-profile districts in Abuja, and must also deposit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property with the court registry.
Justice Abdulmalik further directed that the surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and must provide evidence of salary payments covering at least three months.
The court also ordered that the submitted financial documents be authenticated through a letter issued by the surety’s bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case has continued to attract widespread public attention amid growing political tension and reactions from supporters and critics of the former Kaduna governor.
