Former President Goodluck Jonathan has embarked on a major diplomatic mission to Sierra Leone as Special Envoy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Jonathan was officially received by Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio during the high-profile visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and deepening cooperation between both West African nations.

Confirming the development, President Bio disclosed that he held fruitful discussions with the former Nigerian leader and also extended warm greetings to President Tinubu.

According to the Sierra Leonean president, the meeting focused on issues bordering on diplomacy, regional cooperation, governance, and peace-building within the sub-region.

Bio also stated that he conveyed his “fraternal greetings” to President Tinubu during the audience with Jonathan, reflecting the cordial relationship between both countries.

Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, has remained active in continental diplomacy and conflict mediation efforts across Africa since leaving office.

The visit comes at a time of increasing political and diplomatic engagements among African leaders, particularly within the ECOWAS bloc, as countries in the region continue to confront security, governance, and democratic challenges.
