The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress and immediately resigned his leadership position in the Green Chamber.
The announcement was made on the floor of the House by the Speaker during plenary on Tuesday.
Curiously, Chinda’s defection letter was dated April 23, 2026, weeks before it was officially read on the floor of the House.
The development is already generating intense reactions within political circles, particularly because Chinda is widely known as a key member of the “Rainbow Coalition,” the political structure put together by Nyesom Wike to challenge and unseat the incumbent Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Observers are now questioning the timing of Chinda’s resignation and defection, especially after securing the APC governorship ticket in Rivers State.
Following the announcement of his defection, Chinda also stepped down as Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, effectively ending his tenure as one of the leading opposition voices in the National Assembly.
The APC and PDP are yet to officially issue detailed statements on the development, but the move is already being described by analysts as one of the biggest political crossovers in recent times.
