A branch of the Celestial Church of Christ in Lagos State faces criticism after extending invitations to controversial street-hop artiste Portable and Fuji singer Pasuma  for its upcoming praise night event.

According to The Punch, the event’s flyer, shared on the church’s Facebook page on Wednesday, triggered backlash from netizens, expressing dismay over the church’s decision to involve secular artists in their gathering.

Expressing disappointment, Bolanle Bamidele Adewuyi commented, “This is disheartening… Is this what you turn the Church of God to? It’s hilarious.”

Festus Olanrewaji Ojo added, “This is a shame! Shame and a very big shame.”

Criticism continued with remarks like “This is totally nonsense” from BU KO LA and Ayo Ife’s comment suggesting the addition of Naira Marley to complete the lineup.

Describing it as sacrilegious, Edafe Oghenebrume voiced concern over the church’s direction, expressing dismay over the spiritual orientation of the leadership.

Becky Wunmi Hassan Ayoade remarked, “There is nothing they will not turn celestial church to.”

Contrarily, amidst the criticism, some netizens expressed their intention to attend the event despite the controversy.

Abike Ade affirmed, “I will surely be there.”

Another user, Abike Garment, wrote, “I must be there to come dance away my sorrow.”
