“They say that action speaks louder than words.” Tell the world what you intend to do, but first, show it. This is more or less like saying, “One’s deeds, and not his words, are what counts.”
The choice of Prof. Osondu Akoma as Chief Mascot’s Deputy is in tandem with our yearnings for equity, justice, and fairness. It is like putting a square peg in a square hole. And to further justify its significance, is the timing.
The Governorship candidate of the Action Peoples Party, Chief Mascot Kalu, together with the party’s state working committee, should be applauded for this giant stride of choosing a running mate that is a confirmed technocrat and a renowned academic, whose educational qualifications and careers are never in doubt.
What great and wondrous news at a time like this when the Ukwa bloc of the Abia South Senatorial Constituency would have endured another four(4) to eight (8) years of exclusion by their Ngwa brothers. The seat of the Senate has been occupied by their Ngwa brothers for sixteen years and counting. Yet, they can do little or nothing, as the outgoing Governor is vying to replace his brother in the Senate to make it a total of twenty-four (24) years.
Where is the equity and justice that our Ngwa brothers preach? How can you call yourselves Ukwa la Ngwa bloc but nothing good is coming from that union?
I think this season is ordained by God to bring relief and succour to the people of Ukwa.
Ndi Ukwa nwanem rally round Prof. Osondu Akoma as the next Deputy Governor and Chief Mascot Kalu as the next Governor in 2023.
Theodore Roosevelt said, “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”
Chief Mascot has shown capacity, love for unity, and respect for equity and justice by this singular honor of stopping the marginalization of the Ukwa bloc by their Ngwa brothers.
The former Abia state Chief of staff is a visionary leader, but Vance Harner said, “Vision is not enough unless combined with venture.” “It is not enough to stare up the steps unless we also step up the stairs”.
One might say the choice of Prof. Akoma is not an ideal political calculation and permutation because of the numerical strength of the Ukwa bloc. But, I think the right thing to watch out for here is the playout of equity and justice, which demands equal representation, irrespective of numbers.
I salute Chief Mascot Kalu for this opportunity given to the Ukwa bloc of the Abia South Senatorial District, and there is no gain in saying the fact that Chief Mascot Kalu with Prof. Akoma is a strong combination.
A warrior lives by acting, not by thinking about acting, nor by thinking about what he will think when he has finished acting.” A stitch in time saves nine”. I call on all Ukwa sons and daughters (home and in diaspora) to go all out to get their PVCs to vote for their son, Prof. Akoma as Deputy Governor and Chief Mascot Kalu as Governor come 2023.
Lastly, Shakespeare said, “there is a tide in the affairs of men. Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune.”
All the voyages of life are bound up
in shallows and misery. In such a blue sea, Ndi Ukwa is now afloat.
You must all take advantage of the current opportunity
or lose all your ventures.”
Arise Ukwa! Arise Ukwa!! Arise Ukwa!!!
