A woman has reportedly been rescued from alleged captivity in the Mpape area of Maitama Extension, Abuja, after being discovered in a locked room where she was allegedly confined for several years.

According to eyewitness accounts, concerned residents intervened after a passerby reportedly heard unusual sounds coming from a secluded room within a residential compound. Community members subsequently forced entry into the room and allegedly found the woman in a distressed condition.

The victim was immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment. Witnesses claimed she had difficulty walking, allegedly due to the prolonged period of confinement.

Preliminary reports suggest the incident may be linked to a family dispute involving a business partnership, with allegations that the woman was declared mentally unstable and unlawfully confined by a relative. However, these claims have not been independently verified by authorities.

Additional allegations surrounding the disappearance of the woman’s daughter have also surfaced. However, no evidence has been presented to substantiate the claims, and officials have not confirmed any connection to the case.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not released an official statement on the incident. Authorities are expected to conduct a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged confinement and establish any criminal liability.

The shocking development has sparked public concern and renewed calls for vigilance against abuse, unlawful detention, and violations of human rights within families and communities.
