
Owerri, Imo State – Delegates and members of the youth wing of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Imo State have elected Obierofu Ifunanya Tryphena as the new Youth Chairperson of the organization.
Her emergence has been welcomed by labour stakeholders and young workers across the state, who expressed confidence in her ability to provide inclusive leadership and champion the interests of young workers.
Speaking after her election, Tryphena pledged to run an open and participatory administration, assuring members that every voice would be heard and that no group would be left behind in the affairs of the union.
“I am committed to ensuring that everyone is carried along. This victory belongs to all of us, and together we will build a stronger and more united youth movement within the labour congress,” she said.
The newly elected chairperson outlined her vision for the youth wing, emphasizing youth empowerment, capacity development, improved welfare, and greater engagement of young workers in decision-making processes. She also promised to strengthen collaboration between labour leaders and young professionals across different sectors.
Under her leadership, members are expected to benefit from initiatives focused on leadership development, skills acquisition programmes, mentorship opportunities, advocacy for workers’ rights, and increased participation of youths in labour activities.
Labour observers described her election as a positive step toward fostering unity, inclusiveness, and progressive representation for young workers in Imo State.
