The Imo State Police Command has dismissed a viral video alleging a recent bandits’ attack in parts of the state, describing it as false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, the police clarified that the footage being circulated is an old video from an attack that occurred on July 25, 2025, in Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno communities in Arondizuogu, Ideato North Local Government Area.
According to the Command, the incident was carried out by suspected gunmen linked to a group led by Ifeanyi Okenta, popularly known as “Gentle the Yahoo,” and does not reflect the current security situation in the state.
The police noted that following the attack, security agencies launched intelligence-led operations that led to the arrest and prosecution of some suspects, while others were neutralised during gun battles with security operatives. Efforts to apprehend remaining members of the group are ongoing.
Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, urged residents to disregard the recycled video and avoid sharing unverified information capable of undermining public peace and security.
He also warned that individuals found deliberately spreading false security reports would face arrest and prosecution, while reaffirming the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Imo State.
The Police further encouraged residents to remain vigilant, rely on official sources of information, and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
