Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, secured re-election as the Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), marking his second term in office.
Akinsanya, along with Alhaji Sulyman Ojora as Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle (Sego) as Treasurer, and 20 other executive members, were unanimously elected during the 10th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference at the state union secretariat in Agege.
Their inauguration took place in the presence of several dignitaries, including Acting National President Alhaji Aliyu Issa Ore, former National Secretary Kabiru Ado Yau, officials from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Lagos State Public Relation Officer Comrade Ismail Adejumo.
Akinsanya expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the national leadership of the union, and other stakeholders for their unwavering support during challenging times.
He particularly praised the union members for their loyalty and resilience.
Promising further assistance to union members, he reiterated his commitment to advancing reform policies that have positively impacted union activities in the state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by a Director in the State Ministry of Transportation, Lateef Tiamiyu, lauded the decision to re-elect Akinsanya.
He commended Akinsanya’s leadership, acknowledging his transformative initiatives within the union.
The governor highlighted a shift from past practices of violence during leadership transitions within the NURTW, urging continued alignment with government policies.
Eshomounu Itemoagbo from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment praised Akinsanya’s forward-looking leadership.
He commended Akinsanya’s employment of over 123 graduates within the union, pledging sustained collaboration for increased employment opportunities.
Itemoagbo urged union members to uphold unity for further progress within the association.
Acting National President Alhaji Ore commended Akinsanya and the newly elected executive members, urging them to demonstrate exemplary leadership qualities.
He stressed the importance of inclusive administration and urged fair, just, and harmonious practices within the union.
Representing the Lagos Police Command, CSP Olatunji Oladimeji, on behalf of CP Idowu Owohunwa, acknowledged Akinsanya’s cooperation with the police force and advocated for increased collaboration between the police and the union.
