The Federal Government has officially handed over the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, to Aero Alliance Limited under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement aimed at transforming the facility into a world-class aviation hub.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, described the concession as a landmark step towards improving airport infrastructure, safety, operational efficiency, and passenger experience through private sector investment.

Keyamo revealed that while previous attempts to concession the airport failed due to a lack of investor interest, the current administration has successfully attracted investment, crediting the achievement to President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies and the vision of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah.

He assured airport workers that their jobs and welfare would be protected, stressing that the new management would prioritise professionalism, accountability, and improved service delivery.

Governor Peter Mbah described the concession as a game-changer for the South-East, saying it would boost trade, investment, tourism, and regional connectivity while reducing logistics challenges faced by businesses.

Managing Director of Aero Alliance Limited, Saleem Hussain, pledged to leverage the company’s over 30 years of aviation experience to transform the airport into one of Africa’s leading regional aviation, logistics, and commercial hubs.

The concession is expected to unlock new economic opportunities, create jobs, and strengthen Enugu’s position as a major gateway for business and international travel in Nigeria.
