The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) General Assembly has officially distanced itself from Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, reiterating that he is not a registered member of the party, as confirmed by both the Election Tribunal and the Appeal Court.

During a press conference addressed by the National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, the NNPP expressed deep concern over the escalating issues within Kano State, referencing letters sent to the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Directorate of the State Security Services.

They voiced dismay over the unrest, marked by press interviews, protests, instigations, assaults on the judiciary, defamatory statements, institutional disruptions, embassy visits, and road blockades, describing these as reaching an alarming level.

Dr. Major highlighted, “Individuals, wearing red caps and wielding various weapons, have taken to the streets, disrupting peace.”

He revealed that upon investigation, the party traced the orchestrated riots to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, led by non-Kano indigenes, specifically naming Dipo Johnson, Kawu Alli, and Onu, all of whom are expelled members of the NNPP.

“Our party upholds the sanctity of Nigeria and is committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property as guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution.

“Our Great Party, founded by Boniface Anebolum, categorically asserts that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is not its founder.

“We advocate for legal redress options and reject the notion of self-help in addressing matters.

“Our party denounces the deliberate mischief of expelled members presenting themselves as the leaders of the protests, specifically Dipo Johnson, Kawu Ali, and Onu. These individuals are not representatives of our party,” Major said.

Major shared resolutions were reached after a three-day retreat and submitting letters to relevant agencies and embassies, emphasizing the party’s commitment to Nigeria’s safety, disavowing self-help solutions, and disassociating the party from expelled members inciting protests.

He stressed the NNPP’s support for the rule of law and the judiciary while condemning attacks on the judicial system. Major emphasized the NNPP’s legal victories without resorting to violence or disparaging the judiciary.

“Our party has won cases at the National Assembly and House of Assembly tribunals and appeals without inciting violence or making disparaging remarks against the judiciary.

“We condemn the threats made by expelled members that forced Election Tribunal judges to leave Kano,” he said.

He highlighted the rulings regarding Governor Abba Yusuf’s membership status arising from non-compliance with the party’s constitution and blamed Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s strict approach for the NNPP’s predicament, preventing members’ proper registration.

“The misfortune of the NNPP is attributed to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s high-handedness, preventing party members from registering according to the law.

“The party has been taken over by the red-cap Kwankwasiya faction with no regard for party principles. Violence and killing are not part of the NNPP manifesto, and we urge the people of Kano to pursue peace and order,” he said.

Major underscored the party’s stance against violence, stating it’s not part of the NNPP’s manifesto, and urged Kano’s populace to prioritize peace and order.

He disclaimed Dipo Johnson’s membership and involvement in inciting protests, urging security agencies to probe Johnson and his associates, clarifying that they don’t represent the NNPP.

Major attributed the NNPP’s setbacks to Kwankwaso’s high-handed approach, which led to non-compliance with the party’s constitution and electoral laws, culminating in the withdrawal from the MOU and ensuing legal action.
