The Enugu State Government and the South East Development Commission (SEDC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the South East Agro Development Programme (SEADP), a strategic initiative aimed at transforming agriculture and driving regional economic growth.
The agreement, signed at the Government House, Enugu, seeks to promote agro-industrial development, strengthen food security, attract investment, and create employment opportunities across the South-East.
Representing Governor Peter Mbah, Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said the partnership aligns with the administration’s vision of growing Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion through agriculture, value addition, and agro-processing.
He disclosed that over 52,000 hectares of land have been designated for agricultural development to support investors and expand food production.
Representatives of the SEDC described the agreement as a major step towards unlocking the region’s agricultural potential, while the state government expressed confidence that the initiative would position Enugu as a leading agro-industrial hub in the South-East.
