The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ike, has called on the Federal Government to end the reintegration of repentant terrorists, insisting that those responsible for acts of terror should be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Delivering his State of the Nation address at the 3rd Session of the 19th Synod of the Diocese in Enugu, the bishop commended President Bola Tinubu for increasing military funding and strengthening the country’s security architecture but urged the government to adopt tougher measures against terrorism.
He called for sanctions against government officials allegedly sympathetic to terrorist groups and urged authorities to officially refer to Boko Haram members as terrorists rather than insurgents.
Bishop Ike also appealed to the National Assembly to prioritise national security, called for stricter action against social media platforms used to spread terrorist propaganda, and expressed concern over rising cases of kidnappings and attacks across the country.
He further warned that persistent insecurity could threaten the credibility of the 2027 general elections, urging political leaders to avoid actions capable of overheating the polity.
