The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, popularly known as “Sam Daddy,” has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Imo State governorship election, insisting that the time has come for him to lead the state.
Anyanwu made the declaration in Owerri during the inauguration of the Polling Unit Movement for Sam Daddy, a political support group aimed at strengthening his grassroots campaign ahead of the 2027 polls.
Addressing supporters, the PDP chieftain said his years of political service and commitment to the state have earned him the right to seek the governorship. He recalled that among four prominent PDP politicians in Imo—Hope Uzodimma, Ikedi Ohakim, Emeka Ihedioha, and himself—the other three have all served as governor.
“We were four strong PDP members, myself, Hope Uzodimma, Ikedi Ohakim and Emeka Ihedioha. By God’s grace, all three have governed Imo State while I have remained. I have come to take my turn, and I believe the other contestants will make space for me,” he said.
Acknowledging the realities of politics, Anyanwu noted that leadership positions are often contested rather than freely given, but assured supporters that he remains focused on the 2027 race.
He expressed confidence that the PDP is regaining strength across Imo State, describing the party as the preferred political platform for many residents.
“Fortunately, the PDP is becoming stronger and more united every day. Our membership is growing, and we remain the party the people of Imo trust. We will not disappoint them,” he stated.
The PDP National Secretary charged members of the newly inaugurated support group to intensify grassroots mobilization in wards and polling units, stressing that early preparation would be crucial to victory in 2027.
Anyanwu also expressed confidence in his camp’s readiness for the election, stating that the party would deploy agents across polling units to monitor the voting process and safeguard the integrity of the election.
He urged members of all his support structures, including the Divine Mandate and Mass Movement for Sam Daddy, to work together in building momentum for what he described as a new political direction for Imo State.
