The Ogun State Police Command has initiated a search for a patient, identified as Saba Elizabeth, who reportedly fled from the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba Abeokuta, due to unpaid medical bills.
According to reports gathered by PUNCH Online, Elizabeh, admitted to the gynecology ward of the medical centre on November 11, 2023, was expected to be discharged by November 16, 2023.
However, her discharge was delayed due to her inability to settle her financial obligations.
As her financial situation prevented her from meeting the medical bills, Elizabeth allegedly informed hospital staff that she intended to buy food from a nearby store. Unfortunately, she never returned.
Following the failure to locate Elizabeth, the Chief Security Officer of the medical centre, Akpoji Joshua, reported the incident to the Kemta Police Division on Sunday.
In response, the Ogun State Police Command, through the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that the Kemta Division is actively assisting the hospital in the search for the missing patient.
Odutola emphasized ongoing investigations to trace Elizabeth’s whereabouts through her family members.
She assured that the police were committed to resolving the situation promptly.
