The Anambra State Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) has destroyed illicit drugs valued at over ₦50 million as part of intensified efforts to combat drug abuse, touting and other criminal activities across the state.

The exercise, carried out on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in Awka, saw officers of the agency publicly destroy various hard drugs recovered during enforcement operations conducted in the state capital and its surrounding communities.

Speaking during the exercise, the Managing Director of SASA, Monday Nwokoye, disclosed that suspects arrested in connection with the seized drugs had been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and possible prosecution.

According to him, the decision to destroy the confiscated drugs was aimed at preventing them from finding their way back into society.

Mr. Nwokoye warned drug traffickers and dealers to desist from illegal activities in Anambra State or face the full weight of the law.

He listed the substances destroyed to include cocaine, cannabis (Indian hemp), tramadol, “Ghanaian Loud,” mkpulu mmiri (crystal methamphetamine), and other illicit drugs recovered during the agency’s operations.

The SASA boss reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustaining its crackdown on drug-related crimes, touting and other forms of criminality without fear or favour.

He also expressed appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for his continued support for the agency, pledging that SASA would remain resolute in its efforts to make Anambra safer for residents.

Mr. Nwokoye further called on residents to support security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities and criminal elements within their communities, stressing that public cooperation remains vital in building a secure, peaceful and prosperous Anambra State.

MukTV News reports that the destruction of the seized drugs forms part of the state’s ongoing campaign against illicit drug trafficking and related crimes, with authorities reiterating their resolve to rid Anambra of criminal activities through sustained enforcement operations.
