Female students in three public secondary schools in Umuahia South Local Government Area have received free disposable sanitary pads as part of a nationwide menstrual health campaign aimed at promoting hygiene and supporting girls’ education.
The distribution was carried out by the Wife of the Executive Mayor of Umuahia South LGA, Mrs. Jemilat W. Enwereuzo, on behalf of the Wife of the Alex Otti, Priscilla Chidinma Otti.
The initiative, championed by the Wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu, in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Governor of Abia State, reached students of Community Secondary School, Umuako Nsirimo, Ubakala Secondary School, and Amakama Community High School under the theme, “Empowering School Girls Through Menstrual Health.”
Mrs. Enwereuzo urged the students to maintain good menstrual hygiene and make proper use of the sanitary pads, stressing that access to menstrual hygiene products is vital to girls’ health, dignity, confidence and uninterrupted education.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful in promoting menstrual hygiene awareness and supporting their academic success.
