Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 65 Battalion have intercepted a truck conveying a large consignment of suspected illicit drugs along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road in an intelligence-led operation.

The Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, disclosed that the operation was carried out on July 9 following credible intelligence.

According to him, the truck and its driver were arrested during the operation. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspected drugs were being transported to the Berger area of Lagos. However, the driver reportedly failed to provide satisfactory information regarding the owner or intended recipient of the consignment.

The Commanding Officer of the 65 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, subsequently handed over the suspect and the recovered drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Lagos State Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Commending the troops, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, praised their vigilance, professionalism and commitment to combating criminal activities.

He urged the personnel to sustain the momentum in ongoing operations aimed at denying drug traffickers and other criminal elements freedom of operation within the Division’s area of responsibility.
