The Anambra State Government has stepped up its enforcement against illegal street trading and environmental violations, with the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade carrying out a large-scale decongestion exercise across Ogidi, Afor Igwe Umunnachi, Oye Agu Abagana and Nkpor.

The operation targeted traders displaying goods on roads, walkways and other unauthorised public spaces, as well as illegal structures obstructing the free movement of motorists and pedestrians.

During the exercise, officials confiscated goods displayed in violation of the state’s environmental laws and demolished illegal shanties erected in the affected areas.

The OCHA Brigade said the enforcement is part of the Anambra State Government’s efforts to restore order, improve environmental sanitation, enhance public safety and ensure the free flow of traffic across communities.

The agency noted that the exercise will be sustained in different parts of the state as part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to maintaining a clean, safe and orderly environment.

The brigade also urged traders and business owners to operate only within approved markets and designated trading areas, warning against the display of goods on roads, drainages and pedestrian walkways or the erection of illegal structures.

It warned that anyone found violating the state’s environmental regulations would continue to face enforcement actions in line with the laws of Anambra State.
