The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly endorsed Gianni Infantino for another term as FIFA president, adding its voice to the growing number of football bodies supporting the Swiss-Italian administrator’s continued stay at the head of the global game.
According to BILD, the Nigerian football governing body has formally expressed its support for Infantino as discussions surrounding his future leadership of FIFA continue.
Nigeria’s backing places the NFF alongside several associations from Africa, Asia and South America that have reportedly already indicated their support for another Infantino presidency.
The situation is notably different in Germany, where the German Football Association (DFB) reportedly declined to sign a letter backing Infantino for another term.
DFB president Bernd Neuendorf is said to have adopted a more distant position towards the FIFA chief, with tensions reportedly heightened following the Balogun red card controversy.
The German federation’s stance, however, is not currently expected to significantly affect Infantino’s chances of continuing as FIFA president.
With strong backing reportedly secured across multiple continental federations, Infantino remains firmly positioned to retain football’s most powerful administrative office.
