The family of 26-year-old Mary Habila has indefinitely postponed her burial following the decision of the Ebonyi State Police Command to retain her body pending the conduct of an autopsy.

In a statement signed by Elisha Haruna on behalf of the family, the relatives announced that the burial, earlier scheduled for Friday, July 17, would no longer take place due to what they described as unforeseen circumstances.

The family apologised to friends, associates and sympathisers for the sudden change and assured the public that a new burial date would be announced after the necessary arrangements had been concluded.

They also expressed gratitude for the prayers, support and solidarity received since Habila’s death.

The development comes amid ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death, which reportedly occurred at the Ebonyi residence of the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.

The Ebonyi State Police Command has maintained that an autopsy is necessary to determine the actual cause of death and has declined to release the body until the medical examination is completed.

The family had previously objected to the procedure, but the police insist that the autopsy is essential to support ongoing investigations.

MukTV reports that investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mary Habila’s death are still ongoing, and no official conclusion has been reached regarding the cause of her death.
